Real Madrid's Antonio Reyes (C) celebrates with Roberto Carlos (R) and Sergio Ramos after scoring against Mallorca during the final Spanish league football match of the season, at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid. Real Madrid won the Spanish league title on Sunday after beating Real Mallorca 3-1.

Real Madrid captured a record 30th Spanish League title on Sunday with a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Real Mallorca.
They finished equal on 76 points with bitter rivals Barcelona, who won 5-1 at bottom club Gimnastic Tarragona, but finished ahead of the Catalan club thanks to their better head-to-head record.
"To win we had to suffer. We always seem to have to suffer for our victories, but I'm very happy," said Real coach Fabio Capello.
The victory also sent David Beckham away to Los Angeles with a league championship medal although the former England skipper was substituted before the end of the game.
"It's here and it's very deserved. The people who deserve it most are those who believed in us through the bad times. It's a victory and title for a team that's united and together," said Real captain Raul Gonzalez.
Real went unbeaten over their last 12 games of the season and, after lying third in mid-March, they clawed back a five-point advantage from both Barcelona and Sevilla.
They only needed to beat Mallorca to claim La Liga but the visitors' Fernando Varela silenced the 76,000 Real fans in the Santiago Bernabeu - which included film star Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes - when he found the net after 17 minutes.
A defensive lack of concentration saw Juan Arango go around Sergio Ramos, and Michel Salgado failed to cut out the Venezuelan's cross, before Varela sloted the ball past Iker Casillas.
Madrid pressed hard and both Raul and Robinho went close but Real suffered another blow when Ruud van Nistelrooy, scorer of 26 goals this season, had to be taken off with a hamstring injury after 30 minutes.
Van Nistelrooy's departure meant he will only get a share of the European Golden Boot award with Roma's Francesco Totti.
Varela almost got a second goal after 55 minutes but, with only Casillas to beat, pushed the ball wide.
Beckham's four-year career at the Spanish club ended 65 minutes into his last game when he limped off, clearly still feeling the effects of the ankle injury he sustained during England's 3-0 win over Estonia 10 days ago.
He sat glumly in the dugout, under the gaze of his pop star wife Victoria who was sitting alongside Cruise, but his initial disappointment turned to joy as his replacement Jose Antonio Reyes found the net twice.
After only being on the field for three minutes, Reyes side-footed the ball past Mallorca goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya after Gonzalo Higuain, Van Nistelrooy's replacement, had pulled the ball back from the dead ball line.
Nine minutes from time, Real finally got their noses in front when the ball glanced off an unlucky Angelos Bassinas after Moya had pushed a Mahamadou Diarra header onto his team mate.
Reyes then crowned Madrid's night to remember with a tremendous left foot shot two minutes later.
"There have been a lot of bad times this season but where you finish is more important than how you got there," said Reyes.
Barcelona completed their part of the bargain hoping that Real would slip up.
Carlos Puyol opened the scoring with a left foot shot from the edge of the six yard box, with the Barca captain hammering home a Lionel Messi pass after 20 minutes.
Messi then added a second after 35 minutes with an exquisite chip from just inside the area.
Ronaldinho made it 3-0 from a direct free kick three minutes later and Messi then got his second of the night five minutes after the break.
Swedish striker Tobais Grahn got a late consolation goal for Gimnastic late in the game before Barca's Gianluca Zambrotta ended their scoring spree in injury time.
Sevilla started the night in third place, two points in arrears of the leading two, but went down 1-0 at home to Villarreal, who secured fifth place.
Fabricio Fuentes header after 50 minutes provided Villarreal with their eighth consecutive win and a place in the UEFA Cup next season.
Real Zaragoza finished sixth and secured the other slot in the UEFA Cup.

Gerd Muller biography
Gerd Müller (IPA—German: [gɛʀt 'mʏlɐ]) (born November 3, 1945 in Nördlingen) is a former West German football player and Germany's most prolific goalscorer of all time.
With national records of 68 goals in 62 international appearances, 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games and the international record of 66 goals in 74 European Club games, he was by far the most successful striker of his day. Only Romário and Pelé are higher on the all-time goalscorer ranking. His nicknames are “Bomber der Nation” (the nation's Bomber) and “kleines dickes Müller” (short fat Müller, declension intentionally wrong).
In 1970 Müller was elected European Footballer of the Year after a successful season at Bayern Munich and scoring 10 goals at the 1970 FIFA World Cup.

[edit] Biography
[edit] Bayern Munich
Born in Nördlingen, Germany, he began his football career at the TSV 1861 Nördlingen. Müller joined FC Bayern Munich in 1964 where he teamed up with future stars Franz Beckenbauer and Sepp Maier. The club, which would go on to become the most successful German club in history was then still in the Regionalliga Süd (Regional League South), which was one level below the Bundesliga at the time. After one season, Bayern Munich advanced to the Bundesliga and started a long string of successes. With his club, Müller amassed titles during the 60s and 70s: He won the German Championship four times, the German Cup four times, the European Champions' Cup three times, the Intercontinental Cup once, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup once. A supremely opportunistic goal-scorer, he also became German top scorer seven times and European top scorer twice. Müller scored 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga matches for Bayern Munich, almost 100 goals more than the second most successful Bundesliga scorer, Klaus Fischer. He holds the single-season Bundesliga record with 40 Goals in season 1971/72 (8 goals more than second ranked player Klaus Fischer). He scored 78 goals in 62 German Cup games. His 66 goals in his 74 appearances at European cups are still a record. He is also one of the very few players of 50 or more caps to score more goals than he has games played. Not even Pelé can claim this distinction.
[edit] National team
Müller scored 68 goals in 62 games for West Germany. His international career started in 1966 and ended on July 7, 1974 with the win of the World Cup at his home stadium in Munich. He scored the winning goal for the 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in the final. His four goals in that tournament and his ten goals at the 1970 FIFA World Cup combined made him the all-time highest FIFA World Cup goalscorer overall at the time with 14 goals; his record stood until the 2006 tournament, coincidentally held in Germany, when it was broken by Brazilian forward Ronaldo on June 27, 2006 playing against Ghana; As of the end of the 2006 tournament, Ronaldo has scored 15 goals in three World Cups. Müller also participated in the 1972 European Championship, becoming top scorer with four goals and winning the Championship with the German team.

[edit] Fort Lauderdale Strikers
After his career in the Bundesliga he went to the USA, where he joined the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League in 1979. He played three seasons with this team, scoring 38 goals, and once reaching, but losing, the league final in 1980. He was a 2nd-team NASL All Star in 1979.
[edit] Life after football
After Müller ended his career in 1982, he fell into a slump and suffered from alcoholism. However, his former companions at Bayern Munich convinced him to go through alcohol rehabilitation. When he emerged, they gave him a job as an amateur coach at Bayern Munich, where he still works as of 2007. There is also a collection of apparel released by sporting giants Adidas under the Gerd Müller name. It is part of the adidas originals series.
[edit] Playing style
Müller was short (about 5 ft. 6 in.), squat, awkward-looking and not notably fast; he never fit the conventional idea of a great footballer, but he had lethal acceleration over short distances, a remarkable aerial game, and uncanny goalscoring instincts. His short legs gave him a strangely low center of gravity, so he could turn quickly and with perfect balance in spaces and at speeds that would cause other players to fall over. He also had a knack of scoring in unlikely situations.

MLS All Stars 1 - Chelsea -0 - Dwayne De Rosario
MLS Side defeated Chel$ki FC in a pre-season (for Chelsea) friendly.
Texas represented as Houston Dynamo midfielder Dwayne De Rosario scored the goal assisted by Ronnie O'Brien from FC Dallas.
According to times of London:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2093-2301599,00.html
WITHIN two hours of last night's mildly embarrassing defeat by the ramshackle MLS All-Stars, Chelsea were on a charter flight heading home, their American tour behind them and pre-season clashes with Feyenoord and Celtic to come, on Tuesday and Wednesday in Rotterdam and London respectively. No matter. For all their lackadaisical failings against an ad-hoc team filleted by injuries, yesterday offered a glimpse into Chelsea's future.
The nimble Americans, who had trained together just twice, took advantage of Paulo Ferreira's unfamiliarity with his role and the otherwise excellent Los Angeles Galaxy dynamo Chris Albright missed horribly in the 39th minute when he clipped Richard Mulrooney's expert through ball inches wide of Carlo Cudicini's post.
In the 70th minute De Rosario collected Irishman Ronnie O'Brien's throw in, twisted around John Obi Mikel's challenge and, 20 yards out, beat Hilario on his near post.

Vinnie Jones
Vincent Peter Jones (born 5 January 1965) is an English-born ex-footballer (and former captain of the Wales national football team). Jones is also a successful actor, famous for his scary and aggressive style of acting and very intimidating demeanour.
Football career
Jones was born in Watford to a father who worked as a gamekeeper. He started his football career at non-league Wealdstone in 1984, before moving to Wimbledon in 1986. He was part of the 'Crazy Gang' team that won the FA Cup in 1988, arguably the club's greatest achievement. He subsequently played for Leeds United, Sheffield United and Chelsea, before moving back to Wimbledon again in 1992. He played over 250 games for the Dons, before briefly becoming player/coach of QPR in 1998. When overlooked for the vacant post of manager of QPR, he announced his retirement from the game.
While a footballer, he became quickly infamous for his brutal "hard man" image, which frequently brought much criticism of his style of play. He was sent off 12 times in his career, and once was booked after only 3 seconds of play. In one notorious incident he distracted Paul Gascoigne by grabbing his 'goolies', ie:testicles.[1] During another match, he ended the career of Tottenham defender Gary Stevens with a vicious tackle. However, during his season at Leeds United, he proved that he could prosper and play well without the illegal side of his game, and under the stewardship of Howard Wilkinson only received 3 yellow cards in the whole season.
He also was the presenter of the infamous Soccer's Hard Men video released in 1992, which featured archived footage of himself and many other "hard men" of the game, and included advice for budding "hard men". After the release of the video, Jones received a £20,000 fine from The FA for "bringing the game into disrepute." Despite this, Jones was gradually accepted into a league of his own for being notorious and controversial, dominating the "crazy gang" atmosphere that he had sparked within the Wimbledon club side during its rise to the top and Premiership years. Whilst frequently derided by experts for his clumsy level of skill, he was hugely popular with his team-mates and well regarded as an inspirational leader on the pitch.
A high point in his football career was when he was chosen to play international football for Wales. Despite his Welsh surname, the qualifying relationship was his grandfather on his mother's side, who came from Ruthin, north Wales. He earned eight caps and even captained the side. Although the selection was considered ironic, he was accepted enthusiastically by many Welsh supporters, at least until his conduct on the pitch in an international match got him into further trouble.
Vinnie has stated that he would eventually like to return to football, with it possibly being Leeds United he returns to football with. Jones told Yorkshire Radio "I will come back without a doubt, Leeds fans gave me so much and it's a club very close to my heart."[2]
John Utaka
John Utaka (born January 8, 1982) is a Nigerian football player. He has played for several clubs across three continents, first for Arab Contractors and subsequently Ismaily of Egypt, then spending a season playing for Al Sadd of Qatar, before joining Racing Lens in France. He now plays for Rennes in France. He is able to play in all attacking positions, but prefers to lurk behind the forward as a shadow striker. His best quality on the pitch is said to be his dribbling skills.
Utaka struggled to make an impact at the start of his Rennes stint. However, he took advantage of the absence of fellow striker Alexander Frei, now of Borussia Dortmund, through injury to make his breakthrough. In February 2006, he scored two consecutive hat-tricks, against Lens and Lyon, and as a result received L'Equipe's player of the month award.
He plays for Nigeria and was a participant at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He is considered an important player for the national team, playing a key role in the team's bid for the African Cup of Nations in 2004, and starting 4 out of 6 matches in the in the same tournament in 2006, both of which Nigeria finished in third place.

Michel Platini
Michel François Platini (born June 21, 1955) is a French former football manager and midfielder, and current president of the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations).
Platini was part of the French national team that won the 1984 European Championship, a tournament in which he was the best player and top goalscorer. He participated in the 1978, 1982 and 1986 World Cups, reaching the semi-finals in the latter two. Platini, Alain Giresse, Luis Fernández and Jean Tigana together made up the "carré magique" (French for "magic square"), the group of players that formed the heart of the French national team throughout the 1980s.
He was a notable free kick taker, as demonstrated by his numerous goals from dead-ball situations with the national team and with Juventus, where Platini played for five years and won most of his club career honours.
Platini was named Chevalier (Knight) of the Legion of Honour on April 29, 1985 and became Officier (Officer) in 1988. He was the French national team coach for four years, and was the co-organizer of the 1998 World Cup in France. He has also been the chairman of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee, and vice-president of the French Football Federation.
PELE
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, KBE (born September 7th 1940 in Três Corações, Brazil), best known by his nickname Pelé, is a former Brazilian football player. In his native Brazil, Pelé is hailed as a national hero for his accomplishments and contribution to the game,[2] in addition to being officially declared the football ambassador of the world by FIFA and a national treasure by the Brazilian government. He is also acknowledged for his vocal support of policies to improve the social conditions of the poor (when he scored his 1,000th goal he dedicated it to the poor children of Brazil). [3] During his career, he became known as "The King of Football" (O Rei do Futebol) or simply "The King Pelé" (O Rei Pelé). He was given the title of Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee.[4] He is also a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Spotted by the renowned football star, Medardo 'Lalo' Olea, Pelé began playing for Santos Futebol Clube at just 15, his national team at 16, and won his first World Cup at 17. Despite numerous offers from European clubs, he stayed loyal to his club, remaining with them for two decades until his semi-retirement in 1975. Pelé played as an inside forward, striker, and what later became known as the playmaker position. Pelé's technique and natural athleticism have been universally praised; he was renowned for his unstoppable dribbling and visionary passing, as well as his pace, powerful shot, and an exceptional heading ability, but above all he was an exceptionally prolific goalscorer.
He is the all-time top scorer in the history of the Brazil national team and is the only footballer to be a part of three World Cup-winning teams (it should be noted that though he was named part of the 1962 squad, he was injured and did not receive a winner's medal).
Since his full retirement in 1977 Pelé has been an ambassador for football and has also undertaken various acting roles and commercial ventures.
